HAMAD INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WINS TOP AIRPORT 2024

(SPOT.ph) Qatar's Hamad International Airport takes the top spot in Skytrax's survey of World Best Airport for 2024, dethroning Singapore's famed Changi Airport.

Skytrax is a London-based air transport rating organization that annually releases airport rankings based on surveys. The "World's Top 10 Airports for 2024" survey was conducted from August 2023 until March 2024. It's been a close battle between the two for the past few years, and now Hamad has taken back the title.

On the other hand, Changi Airport was crowned as the best airport back in 2023. It was the same for eight consecutive years, from 2013 to 2020, and also back in 2000, 2006, and 2010.

What's inside Qatar's Hamad International Airport:

Hamad International Airport is the largest building in the country, with approximately 22 square kilometers worth of coverage, said Qatar Airways in a video.

The airport serves more than 252,000 flights in a year, or about 700 flights per day—thankfully, there are in-building trains and buggies so transferring from one terminal to another is a breeze.

When it comes to tax-free shopping, Hamad International Airport's retail stores include big designer names such as Fendi, Ralph Lauren, Tiffany & Co., Chanel, and Louis Vuitton. They also have Souq Almatar for souvenir needs.

The food selection is as wide too. Hamad International Airport houses two Gordon Ramsay restaurants: Gordon Ramsay Burger and Gordon Ramsay Street Pizza, The Harrods Tea Room, and the first ever Oreo café in an airport among other eats.

When layovers are long or you're too early for a flight, the airport's lounges, namely the Al Safwa First Lounge and the new Al Mourjan Business Lounge, which was made in partnership with Louis Vuitton, are there for you. There's also a hotel with a pool squash court, playground, and a golf simulator if you need to kill time.

Qatar's airport also has permanent art installations from renowned artists. There's 'Other Worlds' by Tom Otterness, 'Small Lie' by KAWS, 'Cosmos' by Jean-Michael-Othhoniel, 'A Message of Peace to the World' by Ahmed Al Bahrani, and 'Lamp Bear' by Urs Fischer, and more.

One of the newer developments is the Orchard, a 6,000-square-meter indoor tropical garden. It is an oasis with over 300 trees and over 25,000 plants. It has a curved glass roof and a bridge that gives a better vantage point.
